Making the Most of Your Bathroom

You’ve always wanted to remake your bathroom, but let’s be honest, significant changes are expensive. You may not be able to keep up with the Joneses (or the Kardashians) but there are several things you can do to make even the smallest of bathrooms your own private sanctuary.  

• Get a smaller sink or vanity. This tip is especially helpful if your bathroom is area-challenged. Either look for a smaller bathroom counter or consider using a pedestal sink.  

• Invest in compact and stylish storage totes. Not only can a trendy tote enhance your bathroom’s aesthetic, it also allows you to hind away your bathroom supplies and other unsightly appliances.  

• Install wall sconces or compact lighting. If you want your bathroom space to appear larger, one of the best ways to do so is by installing a wall sconce or another form of compact lighting. A well-placed sconce can illuminate ill-lit corners of your bathroom and give the illusion of more space.  

• Make smart use of shelving. Put shelves in convenient places that utilizes places that would not otherwise be filled. Just make sure to consider head room. 

• Make a statement with your medicine cabinet. Not only does a medicine cabinet conceal the smaller things in your bathroom, it can also give your bathroom a powerful fashion statement and set the tone of the entire room.  

• Invest in a water saving toilet. Not only will your water bill decrease, but a modern toilet also keeps your bathroom up with the times.  

• Consider a bidet.  Remember when toilet paper was getting a little hard to come by? A bidet could be just what you are looking for to keep yourself clean. Bidets come in individual units or clip-on attachments that attach right to your toilet.  

• Use a shower caddy to keep your supplies organized. The last thing you want is your soap and shampoo falling to the tub floor. Get a caddy and keep your shower supplies organized in one convenient place.  

• Keep your bathroom smelling fresh. Buy a fragrance dispenser or make some potpourri to keep your bathroom smelling as fresh as an early spring breeze.  

• Install a dimmer switch. When you use the bathroom in the middle of the night, the last thing you want is to be blinded by light. Install a dimmer switch so you can keep the light to a minimum in the wee hours of morning.  

• Buy some plants for your bathroom. They can be big or small. Either way, a plant provides a sense of freshness to an otherwise stale room.  

• Add some art. Just like a plant, a well-placed piece of art can make even a drab bathroom feel like an inviting place. 

• Get new knobs and hardware. A brand-new set of knobs and other miscellaneous hardware can give your bathroom a total make over. Want a rustic look? How about a futuristic style? Maybe you even want to try something totally out-there? The answer to all the above is new knobs and handles.  

• Paint your bathroom a fresh color. Let’s be honest, you’re tired of every bathroom being white, gray, or maybe baby blue. Why not change it up? A bathroom is one of the few places where you can try an outlandish paint color. Salmon, sunflower, even lime green, none of these colors are out of place in the right bathroom. 

• Personalize your shower curtain. A shower curtain that speaks to your personality can really make your bathroom yours. High-Cost Improvements

Small-time improvements are fine for modest improvements, but if you have the budget and the desire, there are the two most impactful things that you can do to really revolutionize your bathroom.  

• Invest in heated tiles. Honestly, what’s worse than crawling from your warm bed and facing the cold tiles of your bathroom floor? Instead, wouldn’t it be nice to put your soles on a heated tile? That could be your reality if you splurge and invest in heated bathroom tiles. 

• Buy a high-quality bathroom mirror. If you want the bathrooms of your dreams, one of the best investments you can make is to buy a high-quality mirror. Not only will a bathroom mirror make your bathroom appear more spacious, but you can also customize it almost anyway you please. You can even buy a “smart” mirror, which essentially functions as a computer screen. Some models even include a television and other applications.
